Homeowners Insurance Information
What is Homeowners insurance?
Homeowners insurance provides financial protection against disasters. A standard policy insures the home itself and the things you keep in it.
A standard homeowners insurance policy insures your home's structure and your personal property in the event of damage such as fire, lightning or wind/hail. Your homeowners policy also provides liability coverage (your legal responsibility) for any injuries and property damage to others caused by you or members of your family who live in the house. This can include damage caused by your household pets.
Your homeowners policy covers damage caused by many disasters, but there are exceptions. Important exceptions (also called exclusions) to the homeowners policy include damage caused by floods and earthquakes. But you can still protect your property from these types of damages with separate flood and earthquake policies.
What is condominium insurance?
Condominium insurance is similar to homeowners insurance but is designed for the specific needs of condo living. Many families choose condos because of the convenience of on-site maintenance and access to community amenities. In this environment, the main structures of all buildings and common areas are covered by an insurance policy held by the condo association. However, a personal condo insurance policy will cover property damage to your unit interior and will also provide personal liability coverage as described above.
